Welcome to the website of the Nelson Tramping Club

The Nelson Tramping Club is based near some of the finest tramping opportunities in New Zealand. Our club conducts an active, year-round programme of trips for members of diverse interests and abilities. Non-members are welcome to join our trips (subject to being properly equipped and undertaking trips consistent with their fitness and experience); we are always looking for new members!

Quick Submission

Details are here

The future of our heritage is in our hands. Submissions take time, but if you are concerned about helicopter noise, further commercialisation of our national parks then this is the forum to have your say.

I have made submissions before and changes have been made as a result of my, and many others input.

So, rather than vent your opinions privately - make a submission. This is where your views will be noted and perhaps make a difference for you, your fellow outdoors' people and future generations.

24 February
Kayaking Pepin Island Grade TBD

One for the arms!! We can have a short stroll on Maori Pa Spit though. High tide early afternoon, so plan on going clockwise, around 4 hours depending on stops/ swims etc.  Should be able to access the caves on the western side en route. Source your own gear if you can, otherwise come talk with me. The tides are slightly better for Saturday, so keep this option open, will go on the best of the two days with low winds ect.

2 March
Starlight Cave/Harwoods Grade TBD

Harwoods Lookout and Starlight Cave

For those that havent been, here is a link to some pics

Starlight is the exit cave from the Harwoods Hole entrance, deep down in Gorge Creek. It's a beautiful cavern. Bring torches, polypro/wetsuit and wet footwear to use if you want to amble around in the cavern. A helmet is also advisable. It's a steep drop into the basin and climb out, so must be ok and not freaked by loose rock (and not mind a grunty workout). All in the name of fun. A solid day's walk.

Because of the steep loose descent, numbers will be limited

4 March
Pub Night Social

Speights Ale House, Quarantine Road

Come along from 7pm for a casual drink and catch-up with other clubbies - a great opportunity to meet other members and get some ideas for your next trip!
