Rainbow Snow Skills Easy  $26

Debbie Hogan Email:

Phone: 553 0427

We will proceed to Rainbow Skifield and will give training on some basics of handling an iceaxe and wearing crampons. Also moving confidently and safely on snow; ascending and descending steeper slopes and self arrest. If the team proves keen and competent then an ascent of nearby Peanter Peak can be attempted. In any case a good day out and training for future snow trips. Snow gear can be borrowed from the club on a first come first served basis but priority will be given to club members.

I am planning a spring trip from 2 options.

Option 1: Nelson Lakes to Lewis Pass tramp with high pass crossings. The route will be from Sabine hut at the head of Lake Rotoroa to Blue Lake hut, then over Waiau and Thompson passes to Bob's hut. From Bob's hut travel west of the Spencer range to Ada Pass hut and Lewis Pass highway. Duration about 6 days.

Option 2: North island volcanoes. Day trips up Mts Ruapehu and Ngaurahoe. An overnight trip up Mt Taranaki staying at Syme hut. For variety rest day activities could be mountain biking or river kayaking. Trips will run between September 13th to the 24th with flexibility around the best weather in this time.
